Inexpensive Dog Health Care from Local Animal Centers
April 10, 2008 | Leave a Comment
I would not hesitate to provide the best pet health care for my dog, but unfortunately it can prove to be very expensive on the master’s part. What’s worse, your pet dog might have acquired some illness and this is something that must be likewise addressed to medically. Of course, I will not compromise my dog’s life just to get inferior treatment and care for it.

It is also an imperative that dogs and puppies are given anti-rabies shots. Such shots are assurance that your pets are in great health. Anti-rabies shots not only assure the protection and maintenance of your pet’s health and life but your own life as well. You should know there is great chance of your pet’s body fluid to be transferred to you through wounds and dog bites, so rabies shots is definitely a must.
With all the many concerns that deal with your pet dog health, how do I lessen the financial burden that dog health care can weigh down on my budget? First of all, if you need to have your dog shot with anti rabies, in all US states, there are neighborhood shelters and even non-profit animal groups that give out rabies shots at discounted price. Definitely their prices are considerably much lower than that if the veterinarian’s.
And while you are already in shelters and animal groups, you can already have your dogs checked for your health. More often than not, these public services have their own veterinarians to conduct general check-ups on your dogs at considerably low fees. These centers might even be selling dog health care products as such dog food and supplements at low prices.
Dog health care need not be considered a money burden to pet owners. You can always go to these animal shelters and public pet care groups that are ready to provide their quality services to dog owners who would not hesitate to provide the best possible pet health care to their animals, but are burdened with its high cost.

Batteries: No-no to Pet Dogs
February 2, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Watch out for your pet dogs as they act like roaming and sniffing members of the household. We might not know what they encounter as they go along your place. As discussed in previous article, chocolates lying around on center tables of your living room, are potential poison to your pet dogs. Likewise with chemicals and laundry solutions – these are definitely health hazards for your dogs.
Another hazard that needs to be cleared of your place whenever there is a dog inside are plain batteries of all kinds. It can be batteries for flashlights or for radios and clocks, or even those for watches. These are potential health hazard and can even cause death to your animal.
Your dog has an unyielding capacity to ingest even the strongest of batteries, and so it is possible for stomach ulcerations due to toxicity to occur. Likewise, signs of your pet dog being poisoned by batteries are vomiting, excessive drooling and muscle weakness.
If you sense that your pet has been poisoned because of battery ingestion, bring it immediately to the veterinarian for proper pet medication and treatment.

Keeping Your Dog Safe from Toxics
January 25, 2008 | 1 Comment
I am sure your pet dog is such a sniffer as any other curious dog can be. They are scavengers, if one must say it – you can see how stray ones put their head and nose into garbage on the streets. You would eat anything without even knowing what it is, just as long that it fits their mouth.

The same is with your pet dog which naturally would check on everything inside your home that it thinks can be eaten. Unfortunately what can be found in you house are not all safe – to your dog that is. The fact is, some that you might think is harmless is actually poisonous to your pet.
If there is one thing that you need to get off the sight and reach of your pet dog are detergents, soaps and cloth softener. These ordinary, seemingly safe laundry chemicals are actually toxic to dogs. You will know that your dog has ingested any of them when it has manifested signs such as drooling, vomiting, weakness on muscles and on serious cases, coma and ultimately, death.
Do not try inducing your dog to vomit if it has taken in this stuff. Instead bring it immediately to the veterinarian for proper medical attention and perhaps administration of pet medication.
Our medicine can treat us, but some can be deadly to dogs. Like for example the generic drug acetaminophen. It is possible for your pet to get killed just by ingesting 2 or three tablets of this drug.
Again, if your dog has taken such drug, never try to induce vomiting but instead bring your pet to the doctor immediately. Signs that your dog has taken in acetaminophen include vomiting and seizures to even death.
So now you know the poisonous stuff – aside from chocolates - to our pet dogs that we keep on our homes. Make our place pet dog-friendly. Keep detergents and softener up the laundry counter or cabinet. And have your acetaminophen bottles locked and kept inside the medicine cabinet. This way, our dogs will not find themselves suffering from unnecessary pain just because of our own carelessness.

Warming Up Your Pet Dog this Winter
January 20, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Winter can be such a harsh season for your pet dog. The cold days and nights is a challenge humans go through, and surely this is the same case for dogs.

Therefore, if you are really concerned about your dog’s health, make sure that you bring it to the veterinarian to check on its condition and give it the appropriate pet medication and vitamins. You do not know if your pet is ill; the winter will definitely make it feel worse so a thorough check up is ideal.
It is great if your dog stays with you inside the house all the time. But sometimes they would like to wander outside. Check to see if the day is too cold. If it is, then better that you keep your pet inside.
However, if your pet dog stays outside the house even during winter for a considerable number of hours, make sure that the dog house that it stays in is cold proof, meaning it can provide your animal with warmth it needs. See to it that it has warm dog mattress and bed to feel comfortable with.
Another good idea to warm your pet dog is to have it wear dog sweater. You can buy not only fashionable ones but those that can really warm your animal, keep it conveniently cozy during the winter night. Dog sweaters as well as pet boots are available in many pet stores.
An advice that is a must to follow is to have fresh water always available for your dog. With the cold weather, your dog might tend to take in much less amount of water than usual (just like mine do), so have drinking water easily accessible to it.

On Your Pet Dog or Cat’s Arthritis
August 13, 2007 | 1 Comment
It is not only us humans that can be affected with arthritis, but definitely our pet animals as well.
We must be aware that our pet dog or cat can be easily afflicted with this degenerative illness. In fact, our pets might already have arthritis without us knowing it. And by the time it is discovered, our pets are already seriously suffering from the disease.

Simple pet medication to surgery is usually imperative for the successful treatment of arthritis. Hence it is really necessary that the disease is discovered as soon as possible to administer to our pets the appropriate treatment.
Your pet dog or cat may have arthritis if you notice that it has difficulty in its walking or climbing. If you notice that they stay in a corner and have limited movement, this is a strong sign of arthritis.
Likewise, jumping, painful joint inflammation, irritability and whining are other signs that your pet is suffering from the disease.
As soon as you recognize these symptoms on your pet, it is best to immediately consult the veterinarian for proper pet medication and treatment.
Usually the most simple treatment is the pet medication for the pain, while for the serious cases, surgery might be required.Â

Dealing with your Pet Dog’s Worms
August 5, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Do you know that round worms can grow as much as 8 inches in your pet dog. In puppies, worms can be as long as 4 inches. Worms are easy to infest one dog to another. One common way is via your pet dog’s feces, which contains millions of worm eggs. Likewise, they can be scattered anywhere in your house, from the floors, to the sofa and beddings, and also their food and water pans.
It is such a pity if your dog is infested with worms as they can really cause many types of illnesses. Symptoms and signs of a worm-infested dog are watery eyes, pale gums, bad breath, unhealthy skin condition, can constantly-shedded coat.
Another sign that your pet dog is infested with worm is when it begins to lose appetite and tries to eat garbage and dirt. It can likewise develop an erratic eating pattern - sometimes it eats too much, on other times it refrains to eat anything at all.
Check your pet dog’s belly - if you notice that it is bloated and with pot belly, then it is possible that it has dog worms. In cases of puppies, those infested tend to have retarded body growth and development. Young puppies with worms are more likely to become paralysed in their rear legs. However, as soon as they are treated with these parasites, they gain normal use of the affected limbs.
This is why at the first sign of dog worm infestation, it is best to provide appropriate pet medication by bringing your dog immediately to the veterinarian for thorough health examination.
Dog worms can be fatal - so it is best that you consult the veterinarian for immediate pet medication. Definitely, we only want for our pet dogs the best health condition that they can have.Â
