Surely as a pet dog lover, you must have heard about the hound dog breeds, which are known to be the choice as far as companion for hunting is concerned. All hound breeds are the types of dog that love to chase after fast moving things.

This fits well with the kind of stamina and endurance that they have. Hound breeds are certainly well adapted to take on even the most extreme physical activities.

The first among all hound breeds are the sight hound dogs, which are the hound dog breeds that make a careful spotting of their prey before they make a chase. Sight hounds have a somewhat vicious tendency to go after their prey.

And so like the scent hounds, they need extensive and specialized obedience training. Example of sight hounds are Greyhound and Afghan hound. There are excellent companions for hunting because of their strength and endurance.

On the other hand, there is also what is called the scent hound dogs, and as the name implies are the breed that follows the scent of their prey. Their sense of smell is what is used in tracking their prey.

All scent hound breeds, example of which are the beagle and bloodhound, require special kind of obedience training as they easily get distracted by other scents in the environment.
