Caring for Lovable Shitzu Dogs
April 26, 2008 | Leave a Comment
If you want a unique toy group dog breed, then you can try owning and caring for a wonderful oriental type, which is the Shih Tzu or simply, Shitzu. This type of dog originates from China and is said to be the oldest living among the holy dogs of Tibet; you might say there is a somewhat a feel of mysticism that exudes from this unique dog breed.
Lovable Shitzu Cute Puppies are Ideal
Shitzu are recommended to be taken into your household while they are still cute puppies, albeit it is apparent that they require more attention and pet health care from their masters compared to other dog breed types.
Special Pet Grooming for Shitzu

This breed of dog likewise needs special pet grooming. For one, if you want your Shih Tzu to maintain long hair, you will have to brush it daily to keep it clean and really free from tangles.
Likewise, it is advisable for your dog to be given monthly hair cuts. One thing that I like about this dog is that it does not shed its furs. For those who are hypo-allergenic and love to take care of dogs will just have to get a Shih Tzu for their pet dogs.
Clean your Dog Immediately After Every Meal
Unlike other dog breeds, the Shitzu has a flat nose; this makes eating session a messy one for the dog. It can be disappointing to know how having its meal can actually make the dog really dirty and unappealing. You will have to help your dog become less looking mess-like by always having towels to be used in wiping its face.

Everyone Loves Cute Puppies
April 20, 2008 | Leave a Comment
What a joy it is to have a dog – more so if it started to grow up and got nurtured under your care. Yes, while some people would prefer to buy a grown up dog – obedient, trained and all, many would like to own a young puppy instead, and I am simply one of them.
I prefer cute puppies over grown up dogs

Puppies are just adorable and vulnerable – you just can’t help shower them with all the pet health care that they need. I just can’t imagine myself getting a fully grown dog for a new pet. I can take in cute puppies, lovable and all, anytime
However, when getting for yourself a puppy of whatever dog breed, it is a must that its age is at least 9 to 10 weeks old before you bring it to your home. In fact, this is probably the youngest that a puppy should be in order for it to be ready to become an “addition” to your family.
Very young puppies’ baby habits
Puppies that are less than 9 weeks old are more likely to have “baby” habits such as the nipping and chewing. Such habits will not be corrected if they are separated from their mothers at a very young age.

Pet owners must realize that the mother-dogs are the ones which correct these biting and chewing habits of their young – by growling at them and making aggressive body movements and gestures. The mothers make sure the puppies realize that these behaviors are wrong; and they can really be effective in training their young to give up such bad habits.
Mother dog knows best
Remember that puppies a few months older are more behaved and receptive to puppy training, and are capable of blending with the rest of the household. Puppies that had ample time spent with their mothers are more likely to show good behavior. On the other hand, puppies that were taken away from their mothers after just a few weeks exhibit signs of erratic and violent behavior.

First of all, there is the ordinary food easily found on grocery shelves. These are dog foods that are made of inferior, barely digestible ingredients. While they may be the cheapest in the market, they certainly are not the best for your animals.
The second are the premium dog health food. This type can be bought in high end stores and the veterinarian’s clinics. While because of the high quality of ingredients, the premium food are several notches better than the ordinary dog food, we should still be wary about buying them as they might also contain a lot of artificial flavorings. One disadvantage of premium dog is its price, which is much higher than the ordinary food.
The best food for me is the home made dog food, which you can personally formulate with real fresh ingredients. You can try creating your own dog health food recipes which can really be healthful for your dogs.

You can also check the internet for some great dog health food recipes that contain healthy ingredients such as whole grains, fresh vegetables and fruits. Your pet dog is such a beloved part of the family. Therefore you only care about giving the best for it. And if you want only the healthiest form of food for your pet, then it is advisable to cook your own. This fits well with the kind of stamina and endurance that they have. Hound breeds are certainly well adapted to take on even the most extreme physical activities.

The first among all hound breeds are the sight hound dogs, which are the hound dog breeds that make a careful spotting of their prey before they make a chase. Sight hounds have a somewhat vicious tendency to go after their prey.

Terrier Breeds: Fierce and Fighting
April 12, 2008 | Leave a Comment
The terrier breeds are a tough kind of dogs. They are sturdy and fearless. And most are a determined lot. Originally the terrier dog breeds were trained by their masters to capture rodents and other small farm creatures. They are what can be termed as ferocious predators and so are perceived to be as an overly aggressive breed.
Vermin hunting terrier breed

The first among two types of terrier breeds is the vermin predators. These are labeled as really aggressive type of dogs. And as the names implies, they are meant capture and hunt vermin. The vermin hunter such as the Norfolk Terrier (as shown in picture) can be very unforgiving especially towards smaller animals. Therefore, if you keep other pets such as cats and rabbits, it is best to put your terrier on leash to keep the others safe. But then, all is not lost as with proper training of your vermin hunting terrier, you can turn it into a very sociable dog – and will be able to tolerate and even enjoy the presence of other animals.
Fighting terrier breed

Fighting terrier breed is the other terrier type – this is originally bred for fighting other dogs. Like the vermin hunter, the fighting terrier is very aggressive and fearless. However, through the years, and because of the awareness in animal rights, breeding the fighting terrier for fights are not done anymore and has been tamed for domestication. Most fighting terrier dog breeds are now trained as guard terrier dog and as specialized companions. Very loyal to their masters, they are however very suspicious and even hostile to strangers. Examples of fighters are bull terrier breed and miniature bull terriers.

April 6, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Need to bring your pet dog with you in the most convenient way? Why not try pet strollers for dogs? Right now, there are a whole lot of dog and puppy strollers to be found in pet supply stores today that you can buy for your animal.

There are the detachable puppy strollers that are not collapsible and hence serve as a sturdy and safe temporary place of stay while you transport your dog or puppy to your destination. On the other hand, there is the completely opposite collapsible type of stroller that is easy to be stored on a corner when not use or on the car’s compartment if you need to bring it along.
When buying pet strollers for dogs, make sure you have thought about the capacity that a stroller will carry. Check your dog’s size, is it heavy enough to need a correspondingly large stroller? Collect the size of your pet dog – and choose the stroller that will easily and conveniently accommodate its lightness or bulkiness.
If you will happen to use the dog or puppy strollers on the streets frequently – then another important factor that you must be concerned about is the wheels. It actually all depends on the roads on which you will regularly use your pet strollers for dogs. Streets that are finely maintained will require only small wheels for your stroller. On the other hand, you will need larger wheels for your strollers in order to withstand rough and rocky streets.
Try buying one that boasts of added features such as extra pouches. These are very handy for keeping the items that you might need to bring such as bottled water for you or your pet dog, cell phone, and bags to name a few. Again before buying a stroller, it is a must that you check for sturdiness and durability. You would want it to be of use for a long time so be concerned about getting a really high quality stroller, and not just an inexpensive one.
