Compared to dogs, pet cats are very difficult animals to please and so petting it can be quite an arduous task to fulfill. While dogs are naturally receptive to petting, the can is an entirely different breed. Some may think it is such a simple task but petting a cat requires skills, and of course, some degree of patience.
The least that many cats react to petting is indifference, while a violent reaction to your loving approach is common. Do not fret. It might take some time but eventually you will get to befriend your pet cat and be able to pet it in due time – as much as you can. Cat petting is actually an effective way of establishing a master-pet relationship with it.
As said, to pet a cat is quite a task so finally being able to do it is a success in itself. How do you do it the first time? First of all, allow it to get acquainted with you by putting your hands in front of its nose; this will make the cat be more at ease with you.
Cats can be affectionate and are willing to be your friend. You will know a friendly one if it starts to rub its head or side of stomach on your hands or legs. This means that it is receptive to your petting. When rubbing your fingers on its head or body, do it gently. You will know that it is having a good time by closing its eyes and reciprocating your action by rubbing back and creating soft purrs.
Indeed, cat petting can be done – without the scratches and attempted bites – if one does it properly. Just be gentle and patience to your cat, and surely it will enjoy your petting actions, understanding them as a way of showing your affection to it.
