Only Great Pet Dogs for Me, Please
December 29, 2007 | Leave a Comment
I chanced on this dog downtown, great fur, nice grayish color - you can see how in its stance, the dog is in great shape. Of course, you cannot tell a dog is great with only its appearance – how it looks. You can also tell a fine dog by its behavior, character and habits.

For me, a dog is a fine one if it acts its part as a family pet – can interact lovingly with humans, especially with the kids. The perfect dog is one, the loyalty of which is 100% with you, his master. Which usually is the case, as dogs are very loyal animals.
A great dog does well not only with his master, but also with the other household pets. I want my own pet to be a socializer, interacting with the other dogs. No hostile, aggressive dogs for me. I always look for one which has gentleness with the smaller household pets.
This is the kind of pet dog that I want to keep around me. Albeit I want one with great looks and stance – these qualities are just secondary, because for me a healthy and positive dog character and personality matters most.

December 25, 2007 | Leave a Comment
In this modern world, there’s no excuse about not being able to fully provide our pet dogs with all its necessities, much less the pampering products. In the market today are all the available dog products which you can use to provide your pet with all the care and pamper they can enjoy.
Every pet supply store has all kinds of dog products of all brands; shampoos, food, accessories and even pet medication. Manufacturers have come up with practically everything that’s useful for our dogs, and it’s up to us if we want only the best for them.

Especially when it comes to dog shampoos, there must be a hundred of brands out there in the market, and in every pet supply store. However, do you know that there are many different types of dog shampoo?
One of the most commonly used shampoo is the anti flea type, which is regarded as a necessity for our pet dogs as they tend to be infested with fleas and ticks, especially if they are not properly bathed and groomed.
Another important kind of shampoo for dog is that which is for the care of fur or coat. Every dog owner naturally wants his pet to have really shiny, healthy looking coat, and this specialized shampoo is perfect for keeping the dog’s coat the shiniest that it can be.
There is also the shampoo that is combined with pet medication, especially if your dog has certain type of skin disease. You have to consult your pet’s veterinarian regarding the skin condition of your dog, so he will know what type of medicated dog shampoo he will prescription for your pet.
Of course, if you are on a tight budget, you may opt to purchase the multi-purpose type of formulation; these are perfectly created to serve two or more purposes when used on your pet dog, like it can be an anti-flea and shine provider. It is the all-in-one type of dog shampoo.

Keeping My Pet Cat - and Keeping my House Smelling Clean
December 22, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Does your pet cat urinate inside your house? Unfortunately mine does. And while I love my cat so much, I do hate this not-so-pleasant habit of hers. For who can stay inside any room stinking with foul cat urine odor? Not me, definitely. Scrubbing, brisk brushing, wash with lots of water, alcohol, perfume, room deodorizer, window cleaner – I have done everything to remove the odor but unfortunately what you need is a lot of time for it to your room to smell fresh again. A lot of time that is.
So sometimes it does make me thinking, it does seem difficult to keep a pet cat and at the same time keep your house smelling fresh all the time. Of course, not even a grossly stinking room can make me want to give away my pet cat. I have to deal with it, and by dealing I mean immediately following up every time my beloved cat messes up.
Your pet cat’s urine is like a great force in itself. I am sure if your cat wants to be left alone, all it has to do is urinate on its territory and surely everyone will dare not go near it. I would have to – that is, to clean up its mess. The thing is, nothing seems to work totally, I mean the freshness of smell that my room originally have is gone.
I have bought most existing urine cleaners or removers from the pet supply store, and while some is effective, it is not a hundred percent. It’s like your pet cat’s urine odor is just being masked. Well, this specialized cleaner from the pet store is much better to use than the ordinary cleansing products or soap, which seem to fail in dealing with cat urine.
If you wish for your cat to urinate in its litter box, try to maintain the box, keep it always fresh and clean. Or perhaps your pet cat has problem with its excretory or urinary system so it tends to urinate anywhere when the unexpected urge arise. It is best to bring your pet to the veterinarian to examine your cat, and see any health problem. More often than not, you just have a stressed-up cat or in a more serious situation, one with an internal health problem.

Feeding Your Pet Goldfish
December 18, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Goldfish is probably one of the most popular aquarium pet fish if only because it is easy to take care of. Rightly so. However, you should care and maintain your fish tank correctly for your goldfish to last many years.

One concern when owning goldfish is the amount of food to give it, as well as the frequency of feeding in a day. But first, where do you buy goldfish food? You can find one in any pet supply store. Avoid giving bread or cookie crumbs, rice morsels or even bits of meat. Goldfish food is especially formulated to properly feed and nourish your pet fish, and can be had at inexpensive price. You are sure to get your supply from the nearest pet supply store.
One word of advice – do not overfeed your goldfish, as this can be disastrous in the end, and might even cause death to your pet fish. Give your fish just small amounts of food, which approximately can be consumed in minutes. Meals for your pet should only be twice a day, one in the morning and another in the evening.
Another reason why you have to give your pet fish only the right amount of food is because any leftover will just sink down the bottom and mess up your tank, even turning the aquarium water cloudy. Likewise, poisonous substances will build up from the unconsumed food so it is best to give your fish only the right amount.

On Neutering Your Pet Dog
December 16, 2007 | Leave a Comment

Why would you decide on neutering your pet dog? First of all, some pet owners do not want to breed their pets. Neutering makes sure the dog population is limited. And so unless you are a pet owner who wants a whole litter scattered around his house and provide them with care, the neutering process provides solution to any possible problem or burden caused by overpopulation.
But a good reason for neutering your pets is its advantage with regards to the animal’s overall health. Do you know that neutering decreases the chances of your pet dog developing some types of cancer? And when it comes to the dog’s behavior, neutering literally transforms the dog into a mild tempered one.
When should the process be performed? Neutering is best when the animal is at least six months old. Go to a licensed veterinarian for the procedure; it takes more than one trip to the pet doctor as the second visit is needed to take of stitches done. Remember to administer any drug or pet medication prescribed for your dog.
While I myself have not thought about neutering my pet dog – because I feel the procedure might be too much for it to handle, many assures it is a safe and harmless process. They counter that it is not an act of animal cruelty, but instead is a good decision as neutering prevents the in increase in homeless dogs.
It is your choice, whether to decide on having your pet dog undergo neutering or not. You just weigh the advantages and disadvantages of the process to see if the procedure gives your pet dog significant benefits. Likewise, it is imperative that you only allow a licensed veterinarian to perform the process on your dog.

Dog Training: Do-it-yourself or Obedience School?
December 15, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Many pet owners choose to train their puppies themselves, while there are some who prefer to send them off to dog obedience schools. Of course, when training pet dogs, you have to know even just the basic of techniques in order for them to grasp what you want them to learn.

In most cases, however, dogs seem to recognize words said by their master and associate this with a particular task that they need to perform. Or perhaps, the master make gestures like performing a sitting position himself, which the dog somehow picks up and imitates. Experience and personal technique is what makes training a dog a success. Desired results can be had depending on the persistence and positive attitude of the master to train, not to mention his relationship with his dog.
Obedience schools are a great alternative to training your puppies. While one reason for enrolling a dog to such school is to pick up a useful ‘trick’ or two, another great reason is for them to be given a chance to socialize and interact with other dogs. The school will definitely help him get along with dogs of his own breed and even of different one.
One must careful though, of stubbornly unsociable and violent dogs which bark and run after other dogs, especially the petite ones. If this is the kind of scene that you notice in your dog’s obedience school; it certainly is not conducive to training and socializing. It is best to find another pet dog school which has a more peaceful, harmonious atmosphere.
