Taming Ferals to Become Pet Cats
September 19, 2007 |
If you will ask people what they would want to have for a pet, most will say they want a dog. Cats are also mentioned, albeit not as popular as dogs. Why so? It is because cats can be such a total snob.
While dogs are easily lovable and amiable, and are just ready to submit themselves to the whims of their masters, cats have this so-called I-do-not-care attitude, even when you are trying your best to shower them affection and love. Cats by nature can really be the unappreciative type.

This can actually be said about the feral or wild cats. Oftentimes, you see them wandering out in the street, like hunters on a lost cause. You must have surely felt sorry for some; I myself have adopt and own one as pet – let’s call her Kitty.
Kitty, like others wild ones, took time for me to turn into a domesticated or pet cat. Interestingly everything started when she followed me home. And ever since, I believed that she considered my home as hers.
Well, at first she stayed out of the house for long hours, even days. And when she appeared, she seemed so hungry – such poor creature I thought. I fed her and did not mind even if it has become apparent that she wanted me only as her food provider, and nothing more.
Until, weeks and months passed when she has become more visible, and began to stay longer. She loves to venture to all corners of the house. Her favorite place, where she often takes a nap, is a corner in the kitchen where I also feed her.
A, wild cat, with patience, can turn into your very own pet cat. Just have a house that is always welcome for her to come and stay. Make her feel it. Petting should not be a forced issue. It will come in time. Otherwise, what you will get are scratches and bites. Feed her, and provide her with milk regularly. In due time, you’d be surprised that she will climb up to your lap for some petting.
