Pet Bird Grooming
August 20, 2007 |
It is not only our pet dogs and cats that need grooming - definitely, birds do too!
Our beloved parrot or pair of love birds likewise require even the most basic of pet grooming for birds.
Essentail pet bird grooming includes clipping of nails and wings, filing and trimming of the bird’s beak and regular washing and bathing.
Bathing can be done quickly with warm water. You must avoid long baths as this can prove to be uncomfortable to your pet bird.
Clipping of your bird’s wings is very important because clipping domesticates it and also keeps it from flying away. Likewise, only cut mature feathers as clipping the young ones will cause the bird to bleed because of the blood vessels still present on them.
Clipping of the bird’s nails are necessary - this can be both convenient for your pet as well as for yourself. Long nails will hurt the bird as it walks, causing it to limit its movement.

Likewise, you as pet owner will avoid holding or letting your bird perch on you because long nails can cut and hurt your skin. Just make sure that you are careful in the clipping of nails because if you do it improperly, it will prove painful to your bird and even cause him to bleed.
Pet grooming for birds can be a delicate process and needs a lot of practice. Try asking advice from a veterinarian or a professional pet groomer in order to render proper grooming for your bird.
