Siberian Huskies are Great Pets
August 31, 2007 | Leave a Comment
My friend is, or rather was, a proud owner of 5 cute Siberian Huskies, all of which courtesy of his long time pet dog Siberian Husky “Russian.” I say “was”, because everyone loves them so much that all were either bought from him or given as gifts to friends.

Despite its mean wolfish appearance, the Huskies are very lovable and love to please their master. And it is this vicious look of the dog that makes it all the more in demand as a pet among dog lovers.
Because it belongs to the working breed of dog, the Huskies are very energetic and physical. They would enjoy a great deal of time running and exploring the grounds.
Did you know that Huskies were originally designated as sled dogs in Alaska? However, they immediately got popular as pet dogs, as well as dogs for show competitions. It is not uncommon for many families to own a Siberian as a pet dog.
My friend said most of his Huskies have blue eyes, which is actually the common eye color for this type of dogs. Another characteristic of the Siberian is that some acquire different colored eyes. Here you can find a picture of my friend’s Huskies.

Feeding Our Pet Dogs
August 29, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Dogs need a wide variety of nutrients and vitamins for them to grow to the optimum level and keep them really healthy and strong. And they can get this from the select food that we give them daily.
Therefore, whether you serve your pet dog a popular brand dog food or your own personal preparation of its food, what’s important is that it receives all the necessary nutrients that they need.

Meat are dog’s staple food so you should make sure that they are provided with their daily meat requirements. We all know that meat serves as their major source of protein so it is a must in their daily diet.
Liver can also be given but not excessively, otherwise your pet dog will suffer from diarrhea or an overdose of Vitamin D.
When it comes to fat, give just it the right amount. Too much fat on your dog’s diet will likewise cause it to suffer from diarrhea.
Provide your dog with water at the same time that you give him his dog food. Dogs thirst quite easily and so it is best that water supply for them to drink is readily available, especially during meal time.
Finally, let’s talk about the food dish for your dog. The best container to be used are metal dishes because they are easy to clean and do not retain foul smell. Never buy the cheaper, plastic made dishes as they tend to cultivate bacteria and molds over time.

Pet Cage for your Dogs
August 26, 2007 | 1 Comment
If you are having your pet dog, or puppy, for the first time, surely you want it to freely roam around your house. You want to impose no restriction to your dog, and would like it to enjoy the comforts of your home.

However, we all know that one not-so-nice consequence of letting your pet dog be free to loiter around is its tendency to chew on your furnitures such as the sofa. A good bite here, some chewed upon and wrecked sofa cover there - such things are inevitable, especially if your pet is still a puppy.
The best solution? A dog cage. Some of you might cringe at the thought of putting your dogs inside a cage. It’s like cruelty is being done to the animal.
Actually, dog cage is a good alternative home for your pet, while keeping your house furnitures from having damage.
Most dog cages are created to provide comfort to the dog, and not in anyway restrict its movement. Definitely, it can work as a reliable and convenient home to it.
Of course, apart from the cage, you can provide it further with important accessories such as blankets and beddings as well as toys for chewing.
Definitely, do not keep it forever locked away on the cage. Give your pet dog ample time to enjoy being out for more space to roam about.
But then, teach it to understand that the cage is its own home. It should never be used as a sort of punishment for bad behavior and its own special place for sleeping, playing or even some private or quiet times.

On Having One or Multiple Pet Dogs
August 25, 2007 | Leave a Comment
Sometimes, we tend to want to have more than one pet dog. We just love seeing them play around one another and enjoy each other’s company. But before you get another dog as pet, there are some considerations that you need that might make you think twice.

First of all, feeding one dog has great enough burden on one’s budget. Definitely an additional one or two will strain it further. Remember, animals have a diet that’s way different from ours. If you can provide them with their dietary requirements everyday (not to mention the pet vitamins and medication), then go ahead and start creating your family of pets.
Not only do you have to worry about their food, pet dogs need space to walk and play about. Make sure that you provide them this need. If you have a small garden, then compensate this by regularly having walking sessions with them. If you have two dogs for example, you can walk them both at the same time in the park. However, make sure you can control them and not have them wander around. You may have one on a leash and the other walking freely on its own.
Keep in mind that one pet dog is already a big responsibility; an additional pet will definitely further challenge your patience, pet keeping skills and of course, financial capacity. Hence, carefully weigh things out before you decide on having multiple pet dogs. Otherwise, it’s best to be happy with a single one.

Who doesn’t love our pets? We care for our dogs so much that we would want to provide them with all the things that they need. The best food, pet medication and grooming - sometimes we disregard the high costs that go with them just to ensure good and comfortable life for our dogs.
Pet vitamins are definitely another necessity for our pet dogs’ optimum growth as they promote strong and healthy bones and teeth.
Especially if you have a working or active dog, vitamins are a must because of the stress from the everyday strenuous activities.

We must not be dependent on the food that our dogs eat for their daily vitamin requirement, even if what you feed them are expensive pet food brands. More often than not, the vitamin content of these food are insufficient for the proper growth of our dog.
Pet vitamins are also very important in having strong resistance and solid immune system, keeping our dogs protected from many types of diseases.
Just remember that it is best to ask for the veterinarian for their recommendation on the appropriate vitamins for your dogs.

August 20, 2007 | Leave a Comment
It is not only our pet dogs and cats that need grooming - definitely, birds do too!
Our beloved parrot or pair of love birds likewise require even the most basic of pet grooming for birds.
Essentail pet bird grooming includes clipping of nails and wings, filing and trimming of the bird’s beak and regular washing and bathing.
Bathing can be done quickly with warm water. You must avoid long baths as this can prove to be uncomfortable to your pet bird.
Clipping of your bird’s wings is very important because clipping domesticates it and also keeps it from flying away. Likewise, only cut mature feathers as clipping the young ones will cause the bird to bleed because of the blood vessels still present on them.
Clipping of the bird’s nails are necessary - this can be both convenient for your pet as well as for yourself. Long nails will hurt the bird as it walks, causing it to limit its movement.

Likewise, you as pet owner will avoid holding or letting your bird perch on you because long nails can cut and hurt your skin. Just make sure that you are careful in the clipping of nails because if you do it improperly, it will prove painful to your bird and even cause him to bleed.
Pet grooming for birds can be a delicate process and needs a lot of practice. Try asking advice from a veterinarian or a professional pet groomer in order to render proper grooming for your bird.

You notice that your pet bird is sluggish, so immediately you conclude that it is sick. A quick reaction is to go to the pet store tender or clerk to get some pet medication. You ask the store clerk himself if he knows the appropriate pet medication for your sick bird.
Intantly the clerk turns into a know-it-all pet doctor, trying to figure out what could be the best medicine, and in a minute or two hands you the supposed cure.
Have you asked yourself the question: are the medicine given to you really the right one for your sick pet bird? And are you sure the clerk has arrived at the right prognosis and correctly chose the corresponding medication?

Bird veterinarians advise against this practice of soliciting medical help from pet shop clerks, the effect of which might be the endangering further of the bird’s life.
First of all, it is difficult to detect the kind of illness any bird might be suffering from, just by observing it. More often than not, its illness is obvious when it has reached the advanced state.
Simply put, you are risking your sick bird’s life by going for over-the-counter pet medication. When by the time you decide on going to the bird veterinarian for help, it can be too late.
Therefore, if you value your bird’s life and health, be sure to know a licensed bird veterinarian whom you can run to immediately once you detect even the slightest of sickness on your pet. And do avoid asking the pet store clerk for medication and remedy advice.
